September 27 News

Hello Sisters!! It was so good to be with everyone again after missing all of you at Stake Conference! I just wanted to keep everyone up on our announcements and all of the fun things happening!

* First, our condolences go to Brooke and the entire Cannon family. Brooke's mother-in-law passed away last week. We are all very sorry and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

* The choir is beginning to practice for the Christmas program. Joye would LOVE if you came to lend your voice! She would especially love it if your husbands came too!! Practices are in the chapel at 4:05 pm.

* Stake volleyball is starting. It's a lot of fun ladies! Games are Thursday nights - check with Talitha or Karla Elbaba for the schedule.

* Andie Chen is looking for someone who would be interested in babysitting or knows someone who does babysit. If you know of anyone please talk to her, or you can talk to me too!

* Our stake is participating in a gardening class with another stake. The class is Thursday nights from 7-9 pm at the Stake Center located at 850 E 500 N. The class is VERY informative, especially if you have a black thumb like me!

* Mark your calendars now - our next Enrichment is November 3. DeLonne is cooking up something great for us, so you'll want to make sure you're there!!

* Also, we've been invited to attend the 23rd Ward's Enrichment presentation from the owner of Deals to Meals. That will be on November 14. When I get more information about this I will let you know, but I'm very excited about this. She will talk about getting your food storage a little at a time and saving money while grocery shopping without using coupons! It should be very good! If you want to see what she does you can check out the link here on this blog on the side. She also has links to her blogs on her website.

Have a great week ladies!!!!

Fresh Peach Pie Recipe

I don't know about you, but this recipe makes me want a few fresh peaches!!

Fresh Peach Pie

1 c. sugar

3 Tbsp. corn starch
1 c. water
4 Tbsp. dry peach jello
½ c. sugar
1 8oz. pkg. cream cheese
4 or 5 sliced fresh peaches
Cool whip or whipped cream
Graham cracker pie crust

Mix 1 cup sugar, corn starch and water in a saucepan. Boil until thick and clear, then mix in dry peach jello. Let that cool while mixing 1/2 cup sugar and cream cheese; cream together until smooth, then spread in bottom of cooled pie crust.

Combine the cooled jello mixture and four or five sliced fresh peaches. Place on top of the cream cheese mixture in pie crust. Cover with Cool Whip and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight before serving.

Graham Cracker Crust: 1 package graham crackers, rolled fine (about 1 2/3 cups), 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup soft butter or margarine. Blend finely rolled graham crackers with sugar and margarine. Press firmly against bottom and sides of a 9" pie plate. Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes. Cool before adding pie mixture

September Enrichment

Hello Ladies!! A huge THANK YOU to our wonderful Enrichment committee for a fabulous Enrichment night on Friday. And thank you to all of you who came and helped us eat the yummy homemade ice cream! For those of you who couldn't be there, we talked about 72 hour kits and emergency preparedness. Jodi Zabriskie gave us a scare when she told us a gas line had broken and we had 30 minutes to grab what we needed for a few days. It was only a test (thank goodness!) but really made us think about how prepared we are. Those of us who are not as prepared now know whose houses we should go to!!

Then we made 72 hour food kits, worked on humanitarian projects, and made plates and festive jars. And of course we ate great treats and got a chance to visit with each other! I forgot until the very end that I wanted to take pictures, so I didn't get very many, but here they are!

Making 72 hour food kits...Thanks Jane and Lori for all your work

getting all that food together!

Our fun humanitarian project. The table was full all night! Thanks Anne!

Recipes

I wanted to put the recipe from the newsletter on here for you. That way if you lose your paper you can always find it here! It is:

Really Yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 lb butter 3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c. sugar 2 Tbsp. baking soda
2 c. brown sugar 6 c. flour
4 Tbsp. vanilla 4 c. chocolate chips
1 tsp. salt

Cream the butter and sugars. Add vanilla, eggs, salt and soda. Blend in flour well. Fold in chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 5-7 minutes. Makes 4-5 dozen cookies.

Also, at the Pack Meeting last month, a lady from another ward brought the YUMMIEST taco salad! So I thought I would share that recipe with you as well. It is:

New Taco Salad
1 can corn 1 can black beans
1/2 to 1 cup mayo tomato, avocado, olives to taste
Chili Cheese Fritos

Mix together corn, beans, tomato, avocado, and olives well. Add mayo to taste - it should cover ingredients but can be as dry or wet as you like. Stir in as many fritos as you like. They must be the chili cheese fritos for the flavor.

I added a little bit of taco seasoning to the mayo when I mixed it in, but it's the fritos that really give the salad it's flavor. YUM!! Hope you enjoy these!!
