Hello Sisters! I hope you all have had a happy Halloween weekend and got all the chocolate you need for the next few days at least!!

We wanted to send out a big thank you to Lynn P. for helping us with dry pack canning the hot chocolate. It was just as easy and fun as she told us it would be, and now we have the benefit of yummy hot chocolate. August 29 Announcements

Hello Sisters!

I know I've been sporadic at best with keeping this up, and it's only likely to get worse once the baby comes! I'll apologize now and hope you can forgive me! Here are a few of our announcements for this week:

1. Don't forget about the Labor Day breakfast (yum!!) on September 6 from 8-9:30 am at the bowery. Any time food is involved you know it will be a good activity! Hope to see you there!!

2. The Women's Broadcast is September 25th at the Stake Center. There will be a light dinner at 5 pm and then we will watch the broadcast at 6 pm. There is a sign-up sheet so they know how much food to plan for, so please make sure you get signed up for that if you are planning on attending.

3. Our next Provident Living class will be September 9 at 7 pm in the RS room.

4. For our 5th Sunday lesson we talked about Emergency Preparedness. Brother Mefford spoke about how our ward is organized in "blocks". In the event of an emergency we are to contact the nearest Priesthood Leader to us (member of the Bishopric, Elder's Quorum Presidency, or High Priest Group Leadership) to let them know the status of the members of our "block". There was a handout of the ward map with each "block" outlined. Brother Baldwin spoke about the city response time and about 72 hour kits. He also had a handout. If you missed getting either of these handouts please contact Brother Mefford or Brother Baldwin.

5. We also discussed cleaning our church building. We are in charge of cleaning until the end of the year. There was a schedule emailed out on Monday. Please look at it and make sure that you put when you are scheduled to clean on your calendars. If you cannot do it on the day you are scheduled please make sure that you get a substitute. We will also remind you on the RS bulletin.

Thanks Sisters! Hope you have a wonderful week!!

Finally Catching Up!

Sorry Sisters - it has been such a long time since I updated this blog! I didn't even realize how long it has been! I will try to be better - much better! - about it!

A few dates to remember:
July 15 - Book Club at 7:30 pm at Donna Barnes' home
July 29 - Night Relief Society Meeting

Our Summer Relief Society Activity is going to be a lot of fun this year. We will be eating salads and putting together kits for women and children in the Women's Shelter. There was a sign-up going around in church for both the salad and the items to go in the kits. If you did not see either one look for it next week, or call DeLonne for more information.

Also, if you are working on the Spirit of Ammon award, just remember that you have until November to finish the Book of Mormon (if you are like me I have some serious catching up to do!) Also, another thing you could do is write a letter to one of our many wonderful missionaries!

Hope you all have a great week!!

March 7 Announcements

Hello Sisters! We had a TON of announcements this week, so sit back, relax, and try to get through them all!

1. The Stake is asking us to participate in the community "Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet" campaign. They are asking us to go through our medicine cabinets and clean out all of our old and unused medications. You can dispose of them yourself (crushing the pills and mixing it with cat litter and throwing it away) or you can take them to the Lehi Walgreens on April 17. There are also other places to take them - these are posted on the bulletin board outside of the RS room.

2. March 14: There is a fireside for the whole family for the Stake "Spirit of Ammon" program. The Stake President is particularly concerned about 11 year old boys, so if you have a boy that age be sure to have them come. It sounds like it will be a great fireside and fun for the whole family!

3. March 14: We have a Relief Society Board meeting at 2:30 pm at Jodi Zabriskie's home. If you have a Relief Society calling you are invited to attend. We will be receiving training from our Stake Leaders as well as our RS Presidency. We hope to see you there!

4. March 20: Ward Temple night this night at 6:30 pm. Come join with the ward in preparation for Ward Conference.

5. March 21: The Stake President is hosting a fireside specifically for the sisters of the stake. This is our chance to ask gospel related questions and have him answer them for us! We have a box in the RS room that you can put your questions in, and he will look through them and answer as many as he can.

6. As a Presidency, we would like to challenge the Sisters in our ward to read the Book of Mormon by November as part of the Spirit of Ammon challenge. As you read, try to pay particular attention to the role the Higher Priesthood plays in our eternal salvation.

7. We are trying a new thing - we taped the lesson this week for those of you who were not in RS but would like to hear the lesson. If you would like to listen to it, contact Brooke. Or, you can email me and I will email you a hard copy of the lesson (you just won't get any of the discussions that we had.)

Thanks Sisters! Hope you have a fantastic week!

Recipes

Sisters,

Here are a few recipes to pass on to you! Hope you enjoy them!

Got the winter blues? This soup is full of warm sunshine and delicious. This is a handed-down recipe to Sandra Packham from her good friend Coye, from her sweet sister Mindy, from her nice land-lady Claudia, from I don't know and so-on.

Pumpkin Curry Soup.... renamed The Sunshine Soup (because it is a bright and happy orange color)

1 tablespoons butter or Smart Balance
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
1 1/2 tsp curry powder (I use a little less)
1/2 tsp ground white pepper
3 cups chicken broth
1 15-oz. can 100% pure pumpkin
1 12-oz can evaporated milk

Melt butter in large sauce pan over medium high heat. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently or until tender. Stir in curry powder, salt and pepper. Cook for one minute. Add broth and pumpkin. bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cook stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes. Mix in evaporated milk. Transfer mixture when slightly cooked to food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Serve warm. Optional: Add 1 Tablespoon brown sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. (I like both ways.)

Navajo Tacos

Filling:
1 cans kidney beans, drained
1 lb. ground beef, browned with 1 onion
2 (8oz.) cans tomato sauce
Chili powder, salt and pepper to taste

Combine and heat through.

Fry Bread:
3 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
3 T. baking powder
1 T. sugar
1 T. melted butter
1 ½ cups water

Sift dry ingredients. Add butter and water and mix thoroughly. Add enough flour until easy to handle. Roll into thin circles and fry in hot oil. Place warm fry bread on plate and top with filling (you can use canned chili if you want to), cheese, lettuce, olives, sour cream, onions, tomatoes, etc.
